Welcome to Amazed by the Quran, a series in which I share with you what I find amazing about the Quran.

In today's example example or hopefully a few

examples, what I want to talk to you about is different kinds of plurals in the Arabic

language. It's a nerdy grammatical thing, but it's actually pretty cool.

In English you have book or you have books, right?

So you have a singular or you have a plural.

The Arabic language is more complex than that.

So you can have something singular.

You can have something dual referring to two things but when it comes to the

plural they actually have different ranks of plurals so you have like a normal

plural and you have like a super awesome plural Jamruathra. So they have a way of saying in some cases, not for every

word, but for some cases, they may have a way of saying books and they may have one word

for saying lots and lots of books. We have to add multiple adjectives to that in

English, right? But they could just do it through Jame-Rukathra. A word like that in the Arabic

language is Nyama. Nyama means blessing. And one of its plurals is just a regular

plural, Anum, and actually you can even consider it a weaker plural. It would probably appropriately

be translated as the few blessings.

So I'm saying the few in English and Aun,

but that's actually embedded in the meaning of the word

in the Arabic language.
