Sala malaqatla. Welcome to Amazed by the Quran a series in which I'd like to share with you things I find amazing about the Quran and today in chala

0:23.8

It sounds geeky, but I'll talk to you about the difference between singular and plural in the Quran and actually

0:27.4

sometimes different kinds of plurals in the Quran which yeah it sounds grammatical

0:32.1

but I'll make sure that it's easy easy to

0:34.7

understand our first case is actually a description of judgment day.

0:38.2

Allah says about people who are lamenting on judgment day they're they're about to be

0:42.3

thrown into devastation they didn't make it to heaven. And they're saying, famil an a man, and chaffyine, what a s that are going to make a case for us. We don't have any friend that is intimate and close.

0:55.0

Now in this language, the first group that they complain they don't have in their favor on their side is Chafirin, which is is plural people who will make a case for us.

1:05.6

And then they say we don't have a single friend that is close to us.

1:09.6

So they can't have an intimate close friend.

1:12.4

So they go from people who will make a case for us which is

1:14.8

plural to a single friend, which is really powerful because you know if you ask around

1:20.3

somebody, hey what do you think of this person? They're all right, they're cool.

1:23.4

You know, it's, you can find lots of people that are okay with you.

1:26.8

You know, they don't know you well enough and they seem like a good person.

1:29.7

That says Shafir. That's someone who came and said, yeah, you know what, you're not that bad.

1:34.0

But then to find someone who's close and intimate and knows you deeply well and then cares about your well-being and stops and tries to plead on your behalf that please don't let him go into the hellfire

1:44.4

and I'll vouch for him, etc.

1:47.7

Those are not gonna be a lot of people.

1:49.2

There's not a single one, right?

1:51.0

So the ones you tend to have many of, the plural is used. And the ones that are maybe if you find one, even if you could just find one, that would mean a lot, the singular is used. So this is an immediate switch from the plural to the singular. It's very powerful and beautiful.
