Whether you grew up watching her on Univision's Sabado Gigante, know her from her recent fame on love and hip-hop Miami, or have her songs on your phone on repeat, you know

0:22.6

Amara la Negra. We sat down in Miami to talk about all the ways she's complicating the narrative.

0:29.9

Thank you so much for having me. I really appreciate it.

0:32.8

When did you realize you had star power?

0:37.0

This is going to sound a little corny somewhat, but okay, that's who I am. So I was born

1:46.9

for them, and I would go to the supermarket, and anybody that wanted to see me perform,

1:51.0

those long hallways in the supermarket was, like, my runway show, and I was always very, very

1:56.8

talented, so my mom was really the one who saw it.

1:59.9

She saw her friends commenting to her.
