I must give credit to KHOU, somebody over there has a heart for adoption because there are

a lot of adoption stories that come up from KHOU over the years. This one's one of my favorites.

It's a mother who adopts her daughter in front of her daughter's kindergarten class.

Amy Phillips really wanted to be a mother.

Well, you kind of wait around as an adult thinking,

oh, perfect relationship will come along,

and that just didn't work out for me.

So four years ago, she became a foster parent to children like Ember.

The two just clicked, and in January, when Ember's biological parents gave up their

rights.

Thank you for giving Ember this opportunity.

Amy filed for adoption.

It's a lifetime commitment, and I had that space in my home and my heart for that.

And patience for the process.

The pandemic temporarily shut down the courts.

Ms. Phillips, can you please say your schoolmate for the court?

So once the judge was ready, Amy asked if Ember's kindergarten class at McWhorter Elementary could watch.

Hello, Ms. Amber, any, I can be in your Hello, she's lived in my home for 640 days.

You're looking at a family coming together officially.
