The Michael Vary Show is on the air. I've said many times over the years. I've said many times over the years,

the client, the customer from the school district,

is not the kids or their parents.

We don't have a pay-for-play public school system.

Every kid is eligible to go to the public schools.

You are the customer.

There is the understanding, much like with the military, that you pay for something that is a public good.

It is part of the Western canon that we have free to the user public schools that we all pay for,

such that young people, rich or poor, can go to that school and will come out as fully functioning adults.

So we all have an interest in those schools.

You don't need to be a parent of a kid to serve on a school board or to show up and

speak at a school board.

Because what we are teaching the community's children, and at that point they are the

community's children in the public school, mommy and daddy are not paying for that.

All of us are.

To that extent, we all have an interest in what they're being taught and the rules by which they are being taught.
