Oldsmobile was founded by Ransom Olds in 1897. It was the top selling car company in the

United States around 1903 to 1904. However, Ransom Olds left the company in 1904 after a dispute with sales manager

Frederick Smith, who challenged Olds production techniques and wanted each car certified as defect

free.

Smith even set up an experimental engineering shop without Olds' knowledge,

prompting Olds to leave and start the Ario Motor Car Company.

From 1992 to 1907,smobiles Model R curved Dash was the first mass-produced

car created on the first automotive assembly line.

Now before you start firing off emails to the czar and declare that I'm wrong about that,

Henry Ford did not invent the assembly line.

Henry Ford introduced the first moving assembly line.

Olds used a stationary assembly line where the car stayed in one place and workers moved

from car to car performing specific jobs.

This method was much more efficient than the previous handmade car process where workers built one car at a time.

In 1908, General Motors purchased a company, and as a division of General Motors Oldsmobile occupied the

middle tier positioned right above Chevy and Pontiac but just below Buick and Cadillac.

Throughout their existence Oldsmobile was known for several groundbreaking technologies and designs.

In 1901, they introduced the first speedometer on a production car and became the first high-volume producer of gasoline automobiles producing 635 cars. It was also the first

auto manufacturer to publicly promote their vehicles. They had the first standard

windshield in 1915 and in 1926 became the first car company to use chrome

plating on its trim. In 1935, they offered the first all-steel roof on an automobile. In 1948 along with Buick and Cadillac they began
