Every week I have a Skype call into my mom's nursing home in the Bronx.

Each call starts more or less the same. I reintroduce myself to my mother.

I remind her that this is her daughter Yvonne speaking.

My younger daughter, Margot, is on this call.

And we are trying to get my mom to recognize us.

She's got Alzheimer's disease and it's been hell. And COVID-19 has made it worse.

The last time I saw her in person was in March. She knew who I was then.
