The phase 3 trial results of a new drug called Denonomab have been held as a turning point in the fight against Alzheimer's disease.

Scientists say that the drug, which slowed cognitive decline by 35% on average among those people who took it allows

people with Alzheimer's to keep their independence for longer. It targets the

buildup in the brain of the chemical beta amyloid which is thought to poison nerve cells and cause cognitive decline

in people who have the condition.

Bart de Struper is an Alzheimer specialist and also director of the UK dementia research institute.
