Summary

One of the biggest questions we always get before we start any project is ‘What is always in and never out?’ We wanted to record a podcast sort of talking about those things, whether you’re living in a historical home, an older home, a 20-30 year old home, or a brand new build. What are some of the classic principles we are gonna talk about today that you aren’t going to regret in the future? That’s the ultimate question we wanted to dive into today and answer for you guys. Buying a home that has existed before 6:40 Thinking about the timelessness of Ralph Lauren 9:15 Painting an old antique piece 21:30 Real materials have staying power 27:10 The white kitchen 28:00 Windows 31:00 Anything that has meaning 33:35 Scale 40:45 Beautiful finish work 44:00 Mohair 45:00 “I think the one thing that we obsess over is scale. We always want to make sure to keep that Ralph Lauren Bee buzzing around in our head while we’re making stuff, and that small never equals greatness generally. Usually if you scale something really well, it’s gonna look generous, it’s gonna be gorgeous, it’s gonna feel estate quality.” “It’s gonna make a small space feel grander.” 12:18 https://www.instagram.com/alicelaneinteriors/ https://www.instagram.com/alicelanehome/ https://alicelanehome.com/ https://www.facebook.com/AliceLaneHome https://www.pinterest.com/alicelanehome/ https://www.youtube.com/alicelanehomecollectionsaltlakecity News Letter: https://manage.kmail-lists.com/subscriptions/subscribe?a=HZENWY&g=PFcqV5

0:22.2

Hi everybody, welcome to Dear Alice, we've got Sue Hall, Cory Place, Jessica Bennett,

0:28.9

on the mics. You always enter the podcast, so there's never a, how are you doing, Jess?

0:35.9

You have questions first, Jessy Bennett, what is new in your life? New, or what are you

0:42.5

excited about? Still in spring right now? Well, currently, Sue and I are getting on a plane

0:48.1

in the morning, we're going to go to high point, so we're recording this in April, but

0:52.4

these don't come out until June, so we kind of work a couple months in advance, so for

0:56.4

us, I'm just so giddy, I feel like a kid that's ready for Christmas, like it's Christmas

1:01.9

Eve, I'm on the balls of my feet, I've got my hands clenched under my chin and I am so

1:06.5

excited to get there. What does it tell the listeners, what is market if they don't know

1:10.8

what market is? Yes, so high point market is probably the, I would say it's the nation's

1:16.6

largest furniture show where all of the vendors come together to show their wares, their

1:22.3

furnishings, so there's different, there's different markets, there's like Dallas market,

1:27.0

which is great for gift and accessory shows. There's a Las Vegas market, which is a smaller

1:33.2

micro version of the high point show, and then high point is where most of these vendors own

1:38.2

their own buildings, and they're making the furniture there in the south, and they have

1:43.7

their largest presentation twice a year spring and fall, so because it's April, soon I

1:49.7

are embarking out to market in the morning and flying down to the south, so we'll be eating

1:54.8

southern food, we have all of our reservations made. It's going to be perfect weather. My

2:00.4

dad is like an hour away from him, he's like, I'm so excited. Yeah, it's like it's been

2:04.4

in the 70s and it's not too humid yet, you know. It's usually like the perfectly chef's

2:10.3

kiss weather of all year in April and in October when we go, and so it's this sort of
