Here are some of today's top headlines from the Los Angeles Times.

The LA County Sheriff's Department is installing new security cameras in Altadena to fight a huge

rise in burglaries, but many residents are saying it's too little, too late.

Clara Harder reports that break-ins have increased by nearly 450%, especially in homes that were

damaged by the fires. Law enforcement is now putting up AI-powered cameras in high traffic areas

that would help them identify and track the thieves.

Some residents are asking for the National Guard to come back,

pointing out the fact that they're still deployed in Pacific Palisades.

But state officials rejected that request,

and instead offered support from the CHP.

While many residents support the cameras, a lot of them fear it's just a short-term solution

and that burglars are still operating in plain sight even while being recorded.

President Trump's new budget plan is out and it calls for some of the biggest domestic

spending cuts in years.

Lisa Muscaro and Josh Boke report the White House is proposing $163 billion in cuts to

non-defense programs, while boosting military and homeland security spending by more than $150

billion.

The budget aims to eliminate what the administration calls bloated bureaucracy and are cutting funding

for programs tied to climate change, education, health, and housing.

Some agencies like the State Department and NOAA would see cuts of more than 80 percent.
