Summary

In 1966, Maurice and Maralyn Bailey had been married for three years. They’d bought a house in the suburbs in the middle of England, and had jobs at the tax office and a printing press. “They're living a respectable day-to-day suburban existence — which is kind of driving them both crazy. And one rainy evening, Maralyn just says, ‘You know what? Why don't we sell this house and build a boat and go?’” Sophie Elmhirst's book is A Marriage at Sea: A True Story of Love, Obsession, and Shipwreck. Say hello on Facebook and Instagram. He was a fairly lonely child, I think.

in the middle of the town where he'd grown up and worked

at a printing press. And he would spend his weekends trying to escape the city. He would go hiking,

1:00.7

he would fly these small planes, and he would sail when he could, but he didn't have a lot of money,

1:05.8

so sailing is an expensive hobby, so he couldn't do that very much. But he did a lot of these pursuits alone,

essentially. He wasn't a man of many friends. You know, he would go to the gym where he knew a

couple of people, but it was a fairly limited, straightened life, I guess. One day in the gym,

Morris met one of his acquaintances who said,

oh, you know what, I can't go to this car rally that I'm supposed to be doing on the weekend.
