Hello there. My name is Tyler Griffin, and this is Scripture Study Insights by Scripture Central.

0:06.9

Today, Alma chapters 23 through 29. And the lifelong learning overlay that I want to address with these particular chapters is this question.

0:28.7

What is it that defines you? What makes you uniquely you? This is an identity level question. And what we're going to see in these chapters is a group of people

0:39.7

who have spent their entire lifetime heading in a certain direction and by accepting the gospel

0:49.3

of Jesus Christ as taught by these missionaries. This entire group of people in chapter 23, verse 9 through

0:58.4

12, we see the names of seven cities who have become converted unto the Lord by that preaching

1:06.6

and they have now turned the entire focus of their lives in a different direction.

1:12.6

Things that used to be important to them, things that used to define who they were and their

1:19.6

level of contentment or feelings of success in life, it's completely different now that they've become converted. So as we jump

1:32.0

into these chapters, one of the questions for you to ponder is, what is it that defines my life?

1:41.7

What is the set of criteria that I use as a measure of my success and happiness

1:52.7

in my life? What am I really here to accomplish on earth? And to what degree am I fulfilling

2:00.7

those missions that Heavenly Father gave to me before

2:05.7

being born? And before we jump into any of the verses, it's important to remember those

2:13.1

three most important primary identities that President Russell M. Nilsson has repeated on multiple

2:20.7

occasions, we are first and foremost a child of God. It doesn't matter what we do, it doesn't

2:29.0

matter what we don't do. It doesn't matter how we live our life. It doesn't change the reality that we are children

2:36.9

of God. We can't divorce ourselves from that primary and primal relationship with God.

2:46.3

Number two, we can choose to become children of the covenant we can enter into the safety of

2:53.3

that covenantal connection with the Lord through those those covenants that we

3:00.3

make with God and number three we are disciples of Jesus Christ.

3:07.5

And that second and third identity, they can be altered based on our choice, based on our agency.
