We are living in dark days, but the God who is all light watches over his own.

He sees through the shadows and he can see us through the most difficult seasons of life.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. And today on enjoying the journey,

Scott Pauley is walking us through one of the most famous and familiar scriptures, Psalm 23,

to help us get a fresh glimpse of the shepherd in the shadows. Let's join the study now in God's

Word. Mary was dying. She was going through the valley of the

shadow of death. She was in some of the last hours and last days of her life when I visited with her.

And sitting beside her bedside years ago, I quoted Psalm 23.

When I got to this portion of the Psalm, yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow

of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.

Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. When I got to that section, Mary began

to sing, literally. She started singing, and I thought that most appropriate because Psalm 23 is

itself a song. This shepherd, who is the sweet psalmist of Israel, wrote it to be sung. And she started singing,

and she sang, oh, that will be glory for me glory for me glory for me when by his grace i shall look on his face that will be glory for me and i thought to

myself what an appropriate thing for her to begin to sing, thinking about

the Lord leading or through the valley, the shadow of death, because she wasn't concentrating on

where she was. She was concentrating on where she was going, and that, in fact, is the very

flow of the rest of Psalm 23. We've learned about the Lord's leading in verse two that he leads us to rest in peace.

In verse three, that he leads us in right paths. In verse four and five, that he leads us through rough places.
