Day weekend. It's the unofficial beginning of summer, although depending on where you live,

may feel weather-wise like summer has already arrived. Pools are starting to open and schools are

starting to close. I have an almost third grader in my life and over the last year it has been very fun to

watch him, speaking of schools, turn from a kid who was learning to read into a kid who can

genuinely read. He's excited about it. I'm excited about it and I want to help him keep the

momentum up over the summer. Summer learning loss is real.

But I want to do it with books that aren't mind-numbingly boring for me, or for him, but mostly for me.

I've got three that I think you might enjoy, even if you didn't just learn to read this last year.

And maybe, like me, learned to read many, many years ago. I will tell you about them in just a minute.
