You're listening to All the More Books, a weekly show about books of all kinds.

0:15.1

I'm your host, Danica Ellis. This is episode number 510.5. And today I am talking about the best and worst books to read in one sitting or a readathon.

0:26.8

So I am talking about that today because as of the time of recording, I'm a few days away from the April edition of the Dewey's 24-hour readathon.

0:39.4

And this is a readathon I've been doing twice a year, every year, for more than 10 years now.

0:46.4

And I love it.

0:48.4

I don't participate in a lot of readathons because usually they are longer and I find it difficult to stick with them for this long.

0:58.5

But when it's just one day, I can clear my schedule and really get as much reading as I can done.

1:07.0

And part of what I love about it is that now two of my friends come over most of the time

1:14.4

and we do it together. The three of us snack and read all day, stay up late, and it's just a great

1:23.3

time to hang out and to read and celebrate books. We all met working at a bookstore together,

1:30.3

so it's very appropriate, and it's something that I look forward to all year. As I've been doing

1:37.7

the readathon for, you know, more than a decade, I have definitely learned some things. So actually a lot of the things I've learned

1:46.4

have been about snacks. There's an important balance to snacking during the readathon. It is just

1:52.0

as important as the books, I would say. And you've got to make sure that you have some caffeine,

1:58.1

but not too much caffeine. You've got fun stacks, but also that you actually

2:02.9

eat at least one meal. Those are very important parts. But I also have learned about the kinds of

2:09.8

books that benefit from being read during a read-a-thon and the kinds of books that are better

2:16.4

to not read in one sitting. But before we get

2:19.7

into the best and worst books for read-a-thons, let's talk about TBR or tailored book recommendations.

2:26.7

So this is the perfect service if you want to elevate your reading life and get hand-picked

2:33.3

recommendations from our professional bibliologists.

2:37.5

This is such a great way to expand your reading life, especially if you have something that
