You're listening to All The More Books, a weekly show about books of all kinds.

I'm your host, Vanessa Diaz. This episode is airing on Friday, June 13th, and today I'm going to tell you about a few fantastic queer

0:21.3

Latiné books. I am realizing, as I speak these words to you right now, that it is indeed

0:26.2

Friday the 13th, and maybe I should have come up with a cool creepy theme, but I didn't realize it.

0:30.5

Oh, well, I'm human. But you know what? That's fine, because I would really, really rather

0:34.3

talk to y'all about these fantastic queer Latina books for a couple of reasons. I think I've mentioned here before that I'm the captain of our Latine Lit newsletter,

0:41.2

which is exactly what it sounds like. It's a newsletter dedicated to Latine elite. It's a bi-weekly

0:46.5

gig where I discuss new releases, book recommendations, you know, newsy bits, etc. I recently wrote up

0:52.1

a list for that newsletter of queer Latina books for pride and

0:55.3

beyond, because of course we don't only read queer books in June around here, but you knew that

0:58.5

already. And so it feels really important, this pride in particular to talk about queer books,

1:04.3

because queerness and pride as, you know, an event are just under attack left and right. And in spite

1:09.9

of all of that hateful

1:11.1

energy, we continue the celebration and the protest. And of course, I'm always going to be

1:15.5

passionate about Latin elit, but it feels especially important to me right now as I'm watching

1:19.7

all these awful headlines about ICE, just rounding up folks, very specifically brown folks in

1:24.8

two of the cities that are like super important to me as a person who was

1:28.1

raised in San Diego and spent a lot of time in L.A. So again, we're going to celebrate today.

1:32.7

So that's what I'm going to do with these three books that are such fantastic reads. I have a

1:37.1

collection of essays and then accidentally two romances, but that's fine because, you know, it's all

1:41.5

love. But before I talk entirely too much like I am prone to do, let's go ahead and hear from

1:46.3

our sponsor.
