Wall Street Journal several months ago. It's 1931 and a boy and girl, both about seven years

old, are playing on a swing set in Omaha, Nebraska.

A stray dog appears, and without warning, charges.

The children try to fight the dog off.

Somehow the boy is unscathed, but the dog bites the girl.

She contracts rabies, and, not long after, dies. The boy lives. His name was Charlie Munger.

That little story is from Jason's Wig of the Wall Street Journal, telling the rare story about Munger

that I think many of us had not heard before, but potentially the most important story

of Munger's life. And Jason talked to Charlie after he heard this story and asked him a simple

question. Jason said to Charlie, what do you think of people who attribute their success solely to

their own brilliance and hard work. And Munger replied,

I think that's nonsense.

That damn dog wasn't three inches from me.
