The longest government's shutdown in history might come to a close by this evening after seven Democrats and one independent voted alongside Republicans to approve the continuing resolution to reopen the government.

The House expected to vote on the revised funding package early this evening, although the agreement reached in the Senate sparked some controversy among Democrats with many prominent voices within the party, labeling it as a surrender to Republicans.

The American people do not want Democrats to be bullied into submission.

They want Democrats to fight for their health care.

It was a bad deal that will leave millions without access to affordable health insurance,

and I voted against it.

We need to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits to prevent tens of millions of Americans

from experiencing dramatically increased health insurance costs that will prevent them from being able to go see a doctor when they need one.

Meanwhile, President Trump proposed a $2,000 tariff rebate for American citizens earlier this

week and an ongoing Supreme Court battle that threatens to limit his ability to impose tariffs

without the support of Congress.
