Let's pray together.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the council of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners,

nor sits in the seat of scoffers.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and

and night.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that brings forth its fruit in its season.

Its leaf does not wither and in everything he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff which the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the Lord knows the way of the righteous.

The way of the wicked will perish.

God Grant, I pray, that we would delight in the word of God and meditate on it day and night.

Show us the inestimable value of the Bible

in this service I pray.

It's a shame that in our theological and political era the words conservative and liberal are opposites. It hasn't always been the case. The true opposite of

conserve is throw away, waste, squander. To conserve is to hold on to, to keep, to maintain.

And of course that could be bad if you held on to something hurtful

and untrue and it could be really good if you held on to what is healthy and true.

The opposite of liberal once upon a time meant stingy and tight-fisted and uncharitable.

To be liberal was to be generous and free-handed.
