Hello there and welcome to the Thinking Fellows podcast. My name is Caleb and today I'm joined by

my father, Dr. Scott Keith and our friend and junior fellow at the 1517 junior fellow or thinking

fellowship John Hoyam. John's been on the show a lot this year. He was on the last, the first two episodes of this series that we're doing on

and sort of changes that led up to confessions in the Reformation. And during those, we did

sin and the law. We did follow-up two episodes in that series with Stephen Paulson on, we did

the promise, the gospel, and we did the bondage of the will.

Oh, nice.

Which was two very fun episodes.

So we can get some provocative episode titles out of these. And we were able to

do free will as a fiction for that. Today's topic is going to be good works. And I think we can have a

similarly provocative title because during this time when we're looking at sort of these debates and

disputations leading up to 1530 we get Luther say some some provocative things about

good works and that's going to be our topic today and including the phrase all my good

works are sin right one that is still if you if you say it or you tweet those words, it'll still make people very upset

today.

You will make papists, evangelicals, and Lutherans alike very uncomfortable.

Yeah, that's so interesting, isn't it?

I mean, it's just that the, he says this early in the Reformation, so in a lot of ways,

there's parts of the reformations that I think can be tagged to the idea that all of your

good works are saying, you need to be saved from every part of your sinful self, even that
