God is so

so absolutely full of life and light and glory and goodness and justice and wisdom and truth and beauty and everything else that is good, he is so full that it belongs to his very

nature not only to be self-sufficient but overflowing. By his nature he's a giver, a worker for others, an

infinitely resourceful person. He never is exhausted. He never is at within. He never

murmurs. He's never frustrated and he never powers.

Why should we spend time thinking and meditating on the love of God? In this

episode of Light and Truth, John Piper begins with First John 4.8 to show why an extended focus on God's

love is necessary for our growth as Christians.

This sermon was originally preached at Bethlehem Baptist Church on March 12, 1995.

In 1st John 4-8, John said, the one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

And 8 verses later, he said the same thing. We have come to know and have believed the

love which God has for us. For God is love and the one who abides in love abides in God and God

abides in Him. Now this is a massive claim that God is love when I thought what should be

reason number one. What would be the deepest reason I could think of for why we should preach on love

for a series of weeks?

I could not go any deeper than the statement, God is love. God is love. Let me unpack it in a few sentences as best I can.

I think that means that God is so full, so absolutely full of life and life and

glory and goodness and justice and wisdom and truth and beauty and everything else that is good.

He is so full that it belongs to his very nature not only to be self-sufficient
