Chickens. We're going to be changing it up a little bit and talking about composting with

0:14.7

chickens. How can you incorporate some of the benefits of chickens into your

0:20.4

composting processes no matter what type of composting you're doing.

0:23.0

So I know I have some of my ideas based on some of the stuff that we've talked about this week,

0:27.0

Lisa, but I would love to hear from you how at your home and your garden do chickens fit into your composting routine?

0:55.9

compost pile and to a gardener I mean that's kind of like sacrilege and everybody just

1:00.0

stopped and looked at me and I said we have chickens and they were like oh okay because

1:06.2

what you're really doing when you raise chickens is you're taking out the middle man

1:10.6

so instead of taking your kitchen scraps or whatever it is that you're going to

1:16.0

be throwing into your compost pile and let it, you know, decompose and turn into soil, what

1:21.1

you do is you feed it to your chickens instead, they basically decompose it for you, they poop, and now you've got manure.

1:30.0

So it's sort of a little bit of a different composting method, but you really don't need a compost pile per se.

1:38.3

I can honestly say we waste no food at our house. Literally nothing goes to waste because either the chickens

1:45.1

eat it, the dog eats it, or things like, you know, coffee grounds or tea bags or

1:50.2

egg shells or whatever can go right into the garden.
