And this is a special, what we call it, like a from the archives episode. The team, what they've done is put together a string of clips from past episodes all on one subject matter.

So maybe we don't call it an archived episode.

Maybe we call it a subject focused episode.

And the subject today, if you didn't already notice from the title, is all about agents,

where we go in and for over an hour talk about, answer the agent questions,

all the questions that we've gotten over the years from agents.

And you're going to hear a ton of advice that goes maybe counter to what you thought.

I also kind of might go along with what you've heard before and everything in between.

And the point of that is you will start seeing a pattern in some of the answers of what you should do about getting an agent,

how to deal with an agent, the pros and cons of an agent. So buckle up, sit tight. And for any of you

wondering about agents, this is the episode for you. Question for maybe people very new to this.

Why would you need an agent? Is an agent necessary?

It depends on what you're wanting to achieve. If you are wanting to run a crowdsourcing campaign for

your book, you do not need a literary agency, agent or agency behind you.

If you want to be published by one of the larger trade publishers, Penguin Random House, Simon

Schuster, Scholastic, most of them are not open to unagented submissions anymore. I think that there

may be like one or two exceptions for some imprints

sometimes. I wouldn't know because I'm obviously not operating that way. And there might be some

smaller houses who are opened on agented submissions, but basically it's access initially.

And then what I would say is that, you know, we hope submissions, but basically it's access initially.
