Avanti west coast feel good travel. Hi folks this is a short podcast about a major development in the series on The Great Famine.

I wasn't sure if I would be able to pull this off, but it's finally come together in the last few days,

and I'm delighted now to be able to announce it.

In the series so far, we have covered nearly four hours of history on the story of the great

famine. Through each episode I've tried to focus on individual stories many of which took place

in the west of Ireland.

Through these I was hoping this would make history real for you.

While these accounts do help to create a picture of life in Ireland during the 1840s,

they do only go so far though. Nothing can replace being in an

actual place. While I can't say I've mastered time travel just yet, next week I'm going to take

you a step closer to the Ireland of your ancestors in the 1840s.

I will be traveling to the west of Ireland and spending a few days on Ackle Island where I'll be recording videos, extra

podcasts and interviews. Now for those of you who have never been,

ackle is a really amazing place. It's unspoiled beauty is second to none, but I'm not going there for the views.

At the moment the Akel, Archaeological Field School, are excavating the remains of a famine-era settlement

at Kiel, which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.
