I'm your host, Danny, and today we have the pleasure of having Becky Ferreira on the podcast. She is a science writer who has written the book, First Contact, The Story of Our Obsession with Aliens. It's a narrative and visual explanation of humanity's age-old search for and fixation with extraterrestrials. I'm super excited to get to the history of extraterrestrials

and everything we might want to know about aliens. Hi, Becky. It's really great to have you on the

podcast. Thanks so much for having me. I'm really excited to talk everything about aliens. Can we start

at the beginning with like the history and

why we're obsessed? I know that's your whole book, right? Yes. Yes. So that's sort of what I

wanted to do with this book is bring together. Obviously everybody's obsessed to some degree, right?

Yes. And I come from at it as a science reporter. I've been covering the

search for extraterrestrial life for 15 years, mostly focused on like telescopes, astrobiology

projects and stuff. But then, you know, because there's, that's kind of a siloed world. And then

there's this other world where there's lots of people obviously who believe aliens have visited

and that they've interacted with them and what are these UIP.

So only in the last like five years have I really gotten into reporting on that.

And I still come at it from like a from a science reporter's angle.

So you're going to be much more deep into the lore on all of that.

I'm interested in your opinions on it.

But yeah, what I wanted to do with this book was just kind of like have the conversation,

have people from these different worlds start to talk together. We're all obsessed with the same
