Summary

Today we have a very special guest on the show - Bill from Garden Maker! As you know, Garden Maker sponsors the Epic Gardening podcast and I'm very grateful for that. I thought I'd have Bill on to drop some knowledge about some commonly-found organic fertilizer ingredients.

Today is all about alfalfa meal!

Keep Growing,

1:01.9

We chose that for a reason and I'd love to kind of get your expert thoughts on why that's such a heavy weighting.

1:09.0

Alpha there's a couple things and the reason I like alfalfa again it kind of has this

1:18.2

multi-purpose kind of use the first thing is it's its n NP and K is quite nice.

1:23.6

It's not particularly high in phosphorus, but it's got a nice nitrogen and a

1:27.0

reasonable potassium. It also has a fair amount of calcium in it.

1:30.3

It's kind of why it's used in nutrition for animals.

1:33.4

So it's got some extra nutrients in that regard.

1:37.0

Apparently, the one real key value of it that's kind of missed by many people is that it has a natural compound in it that's called

1:46.7

tricontinol and that actually stimulates root development and it was discovered in the 70s during one of the first energy

crisis when alfalfa was being used as a replacement for urea which is a
