Welcome. Welcome, one and all, to the late show. I'm your host, Stephen Colbert. Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's 420, and you know what that means.

0:20.0

That's right. It's National Lime of Bean Respect Day. That's right. The world's most respectable edible.

0:27.0

Today's all about getting baked beans. Remember, you don't have to like Lime of Beans today, but you damn sure better respect them.

0:37.0

You take off your hat when you eat that bean, Mr. Beans Beans, the magical fruit, the more you eat, the more you salute.

0:46.0

Now, I'm sure, as we always do on the solemn day, let's take a look at the official Lime of Bean Respect Day timeline.

1:37.0

Party!

1:40.0

This year's a big one for 420, because new polling shows 37% of Americans say they use weed while the remaining 63% say they were just holding it for a friend.

1:52.0

And the tide seems to be turning on legalization.

1:55.0

Two-thirds of Americans want recreational marijuana used to be legal under federal law and in their own state.

2:02.0

Now, if you smoke, obviously you want it to be legal, but even among those who say they never use marijuana, a majority favor legalization.

2:13.0

Well, that makes sense.

2:15.0

Marijuana is tame compared to other controlled substances.

2:19.0

Its most dangerous side effect is making hacky-sack seem like a sport.

2:24.0

Now, legalizing marijuana could also help fight racism, because black people are 264% more likely than white people to be arrested for cannabis possession,

2:36.0

even though they use it similar rates, okay.

2:39.0

That stat comes from a true authority on recreational marijuana, the Twitter feed of Ben and Jerry's.

2:47.0
