On June 7, 2021, Maggy and Paul Murdaugh were murdered at the sprawling 1700-acre South Carolina hunting estate ‘Moselle’. A year later, Alex Murdaugh was indicted and arrested for the murders; the Trial begins January 23, 2023, in Colleton County, South Carolina.
There has been a lot of pre-trial activity ahead of the trial starting. The court recently ordered the jury information sealed and not disclosed, meaning jurors will be referred to by number, and their information will remain private.
The defense and prosecution are arguing over what evidence should be included in the trial. The defense wants to introduce evidence of a polygraph test, but the prosecution argues that it could lead to a mistrial. The prosecution is also attempting to exclude evidence related to a possible "third-party guilt" of another person who may have been involved in the murder.
