Summary

After Bart Pieciul is mauled by a bear in the Alaska wilderness, his friends have to use all of their outdoor knowledge to keep him alive. The three men are stranded in the mountains for hours, waiting for a Coast Guard helicopter to airlift Bart to the nearest hospital. As the temperature drops, they’re desperate to prevent their friend from succumbing to blood loss and hypothermia. And they have no idea if the bear that attacked him will return.

0:43.0	That he's about to find his friend's dead body crumpled in the snow.

0:53.0	Moments ago, Moskowitz witnessed a massive brown bear attack his friend Bart Pichul.
0:59.5	Pichul, Moskowitz and another friend Graham Kraft had been backcountry skiing and snowboarding near Haynes, Alaska.
1:07.0	They'd accidentally skied over the bear's den, awakening both her and her cub.
1:12.5	During the attack, both Bart and the bear slid down the mountain out of Moskowitz's sight.
1:18.5	While Moskowitz was getting into his skis, he saw Kraft zip by on his way to health.
1:24.5	Now, Moskowitz's stomach flips as his skis over a crest. And then, he sees Bart, curled up in the ball, blood spilling into the snow from his neck.
1:36.5	Blood is also seeping through his parke and snow pants. But he's alive.
1:43.5	Kraft kneels beside him, trying to assess his injuries. Kraft's dog, Syracuse, patrols the area around Bart, keeping watch.
1:52.5	Moskowitz comes to a stop a few feet away, staring in shock at his wounded friend.
1:58.5	This can't be happening, he thinks. This was supposed to be a routine ski trip.
2:03.5	Moskowitz prides himself on being prepared for anything, but it had never occurred to him that they might encounter a bear.
2:11.5	Instead of winter, bears should be hibernating. Kraft looks up, his eyes wide with fear.
2:17.5	Moskie, call for help.
2:20.5	Moskowitz nods, then strips off his backpack and pulls out his in-reach.
2:25.5	It's a satellite communication device that looks like an old chunky cell phone.
2:29.5	They're far out of cellular range, so this is the only way to reach out for help.
