Okay, welcome to the second part of the Alan Watts on Intelligence Podcast.

This section will discuss the background and vocabulary related to the article.

Alan Watts was a Buddhist and Taoist philosopher.

He lived back in the 50s, 60s. I can't remember, I think he died in the 70s perhaps he had a strong influence on the

beat movement the beats were a group of writers that wrote in the late 50s and early 60s in the United States.

And the Beats had a strong influence on the 60s, on the Beatles, on the influence in America and Alan Watts was associated with this group of people.

And he helped to bring Buddhist ideas and Taoist ideas to the United States.

All right, in this article, let's review

some of the vocabulary.

In the beginning, I use the word previously.

Many of you know what that word means, but it means earlier. So he says,

previously I wrote about three principles of Taoist philosophy. And of course

principles are main ideas or rules to live by or very important ideas or rules.

And he talks about the water course character, the water course way of nature.

Water course means, water of course you know,

but course means path.

So the path that water follows, that's what water course means.

And water follows the line of least resistance.

It means water always finds the easiest way to go down a hill.

If there's a rock in the way, the water goes around the rock.
