Sam McCost on the team 980 had the NHL draft last night in the Washington

Capitol's had the 8th pick. They really in the past. They didn't have many high

picks because they were winning and getting to the playoffs, but they drafted

Ryan Leonard, 8th overall. And join us right now to give us some insight from

NBC sports Washington's our pal, Alan May. Alan had a longer summer this

year started early. You've been enjoying it. Not as much as I normally would, but

I'll take it for now. I remember the last time the caps didn't make the playoffs.

We had a pretty incredible four-year run and hopefully we can get back to

having some solid seasons here. Hey, before we talk about Ryan Leonard or the

caps drafted, the number one overall pick was Connor Bedard, who's a 17-year-old

kid, I think, from he played in the WHL for the Regina team. He had 71 goals and

143 points for his team this season for whatever league that is, but he's

being compared to a lot of the great players. And I did hear one of the

insiders say there's a chance we could see Bedard in the NHL as early as

this year. How good is this kid? Is he a camp misser? He's a very good hockey player.

Connor Bedard from he played in the Regina Pads in the Western Hockey League. He

scored 71 goals last year and seven playoff games. He had 10 goals and tennis

assists. He scored the most amazing overtime goal at the World Junior Hockey

Championships last summer. So every league that he's played in from childhood,

he's torn it apart. He's a smaller guy, but I don't think I'm putting him in the

category of Conor McDavid Sidney-Crosby. And I still think, you know, with the
