Rose Bowl. Brownie's out in California, so he's not part of the interview here, Joel. So you're on

the Shinar hotline, and I'll start with you. When I look at Indiana's defense, their numbers pop.

Alabama's coming off a playoff win with Oklahoma. How much does Indiana and Oklahoma's defense look alike?

Do they sort of attack you the same way with that pass rush off the edge?

Is there any similarities between the defense Alabama just saw and the one they're about to see?

Not a ton.

Indiana is very unique.

You know, Oklahoma will throw a lot of defense at you, a lot of schematics at you, creativity, late calls.

Venables loves to get the call in as late as possible, you know, guys kind of standing around until the last minute.

Indiana is much more system-oriented.

You know, the continuity that Signetti and his assistants have had is really

unmatched.

Brian Haynes, the defensive coordinator, goes all the way back to Elon with him.

So they've been together for a decade plus.

Same thing with his offensive coordinator, Mike Shanahan.

So the continuity within the schematics of what they do is pretty sound. And on the defensive side for Indiana, they're really

led by a core group of guys that came from JMU. So they're in their third and fourth year in

this system under Brian Haynes, guys like Aden Fisher, the lineback,

a really good player. The key to their whole defense, though, is their corner, DeAngelo Pons.

He's an excellent player, and what they do is they like to rotate away from him and play a ton of zone

coverage, and they flood the other areas of the field with more numbers
