1:08.3	He shot to national prominence after he was asked by Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton
1:12.1	to serve as his running mate in the 1992 presidential
1:14.8	election and accepted.
1:17.0	They ultimately defeated incumbent George H.W. Bush and his running mate, Dan Quayle, and
1:21.9	Gore spent the next eight years, most of the 1990s, a time of great peace and prosperity, serving alongside Clinton.
1:29.0	Then in 2000, he ran against George W Bush to succeed Clinton in the Oval Office.
1:34.7	Contested ballots in Florida led to numerous recounts and ultimately the intervention of a
1:39.5	politicized US Supreme Court which ruled in favor of Bush. It was a turning point in American
1:44.9	history and also of course in Gore's own life. Over the 17 plus years since Gore has
