Summary

This week, the Hacks talk politics of al-Baghdadi: did Trump overplay the death of the ISIS leader? Will Trump benefit, and will it last? The timing of Nancy Pelosi's impeachment decision strikes Axe and Murphy as peculiar: Why now? What does it mean for 2020? Joe Biden's new 60 Minutes interview featured the side of Biden everyone's been waiting for. Is the former Veep's 'Candidate Protection Program' turning over a new leaf? Plus, the Hacks talk Nate Silver's new FiveThirtyEight story on whether or not Democrats really want a new candidate, the politics of Biden's PAC reversal, and the upcoming Law and Justice (formerly known as the Jefferson-Jackson) dinner in Iowa, the event that was considered a launchpad for President Obama. The Hacks wrap by answering listeners' questions on whether or not Murphy can be convinced to vote for Liz Warren, and whether it's better to be leading in national polls or gaining in statewide polls. A bullpitcher attacks on Taff with David Axelrod and Mike Murphy.

Abu Bakar al-Baghdadi is dead. He died after running into a dead end tunnel, whimpering

0:32.0

and crying and screaming all the way.

0:35.0

Well Murphy, this was a big deal. Let's acknowledge it up front. Getting al-Baghdadi was a good thing,

0:44.0

a good thing for the world. That said, I just want to talk about the politics of it. First of all,

0:50.3

his handling of it. The thing that struck me about it was, had the president done what the

0:57.2

president seems incapable of doing, which is going minimalist, had he just announced this in fairly

1:04.5

simple terms and allowed the military to brief on it, he would have maybe gotten more out of it

1:10.6

than using language like that, which the military guys will tell you is inflammatory. It may not even be true,

1:17.6

how al-Baghdadi died. Nobody will confirm it. The president may have been belished, but also he went on

1:24.4

for an hour in a press conference that devolved into what they often do, which is the greatness of Trump.

1:30.6

Yeah, subtlety is not the hallmark of this administration and I agree about the tone of it. I expected

1:38.9

him to say that the troops were begging him to personally lead the operation, but unfortunately the

1:43.4

bone spurs kicked in and he couldn't quite get the combat putts on in time. You could now,

1:47.9

it's wondering how long it would take for you to slip that in there. Well, I can't resist, but I'll

1:53.4

tell you, I think the Democrats are making a political mistake on this one. If you don't like Trump,

1:58.1

as evidenced by the beginning of our podcast here, this is yet another log on the fire of why he's

2:05.4

so horrible. But as long as we're debating this, the category we're debating is how Trump handled a

2:12.7

huge military or special operations victory under his watch. The category is very bad terror is

2:20.3

dead under Trump's watch. So he may not be doing it with great finesse and the boarsiness is off

2:27.2

the chart as usual, but it's a good thing to be talking about if you're Trump helps him. So if I

2:31.7

were the Democrats, I would switch the channel and stop trying to kind of give him a parking ticket
