I'm Mick Garrus, and this is Postmortem.

The time has come to talk about creepy doll movies.

They have a long and storied history,

probably dating back to 1929,

when Eric Von Stroheim starred as the great gabbo

in the early talkie of the same name.

It establishes the ventriloquist with a dummy

that may have a mind of its own,

really an expression of madness from the ventriloquist.

Many of these frightening tales of scary dolls and dummies

had a high pedigree anchored by major stars.

In 1945, the British horror anthology, Dead of Night,

also dealt with a Sir Michael Redgrave as a ventriloquist

and his crazy-making doll.
