If you roll back the clock to January of this year, before the coronavirus hit the United States,

one company to watch in Silicon Valley was Airbnb.

Airbnb had actually managed to have profitable quarters from time to time.

So investors were stoked about it.

They valued the company at around $30 billion.

Then, of course, came coronavirus.

The travel company didn't seem so appetizing.

And now, months later, AirB&B has gone ahead with its long planned IPO.

And so far, the stock has done incredibly well on its first day of trading.

Its price more than doubled.

What happened to Airbnb was kind of what happened to the rest of the travel industry?

You know, the pandemic came around and then all of a sudden... kind of what happened to the rest of the travel industry.

No one went anywhere and they definitely didn't go anywhere

and then stay at an Airbnb.

How bad did it get?

The low point was somewhere around April.

I think their gross bookings were down something like 70% year over year.
