Last fall after the United States' 20-year war in Afghanistan came to an end, more than 70,000

Afghan civilians and other foreign nationals were evacuated by the U.S. military, but they needed places

to stay. And that's where Airbnb came in. For eight years, Airbnb's open home initiatives

has provided free housing for people in need, including refugees.

At the time, the platform said it would provide free short-term housing to 40,000 Afghan refugees.

So after Russian forces officially invaded Ukraine at the end of February, leaving over 600,000 people with nowhere to go,

Airbnb's chief executive officer Brian Chesky had a precedent.

Well, I think that in a global humanitarian crisis like this, I think everyone should

ask the question, how can we help?

This, to me, is a global problem.
