I love the image that you just painted of filling the cup with water and when it overflows,

what direction is it going to flow?

Yeah.

That's really helpful, but it's going to be away from the cup.

Yeah, it's going to be down the fall line.

So there's no necessarily any guarantee that the direction water would flow below the hole is the same direction that water would flow into the hole. That's the hardest one to get right. Unless the green is perfectly flat and tilted, which again is not the real world, that's the only time the direction flowing in would be the same as direction flowing out. Because the hole isn't necessarily placed on a flat surface, the direction in could be

slightly offset from the direction out. That's much more common than not. So that's why it has

some limitations is it only gives us the fall line directly below the hole. It doesn't necessarily

represent the fall line above the hole. We can make a decent estimation based on that, but will

necessarily be as accurate as we would prefer.
