When you apply for a job today, chances are the first set of eyes on your resume isn't human.

It's a piece of software scanning for keywords.

Maybe later, a chatbot will interview you or an algorithm will evaluate your facial expressions.

Good luck for those of you with no poker face.

Employers say these tools save time and money, helping them sort through the flood of applications,

but there's mounting evidence.

They also screen out qualified candidates, reproduce old biases, and turn hiring into an arms race where both sides are relying on AI.

Hilka Shelman has been tracking this story.

She's an investigative reporter, a journalism professor at NYU, and author of The Algorithm,

how AI decides who gets hired, monitored, promoted, and fired, and why we need to fight back.
