Summary

The Spectator Economic Innovator of the Year Awards, in partnership with Rathbones, celebrate the passion and creativity of British entrepreneurs. From hundreds of entries we have narrowed down to some 50 finalists across the United Kingdom. In this episode, the judges introduce those cutting edge healthcare companies who are amongst the finalists and compare and contrast what they do with the latest biotech, AI, and how well they fare when trying to introduce innovation into the NHS.

The judges in this episode are Jonny Ohlson, founder and chairman of biotech firm Touchlight; Nicholas Hardie, entrepreneur and non-executive director on the board of Moorfields Eye Hospital; Michelle White, Head of Private Office for Rathbones; and Martin Vander Weyer, The Spectator's business editor.

0:25.1	and I'm proud to say that they grow year by year.
0:29.5	So this year we had no less than 267 entries, I believe,
0:35.2	from every corner of the UK and in every possible business sector.
0:40.4	I'm Martin Van der Weir. I'm the business editor of The Spectator. I'm joined today by a very
0:46.7	distinguished panel of guest judges. For these podcasts, we divide them up and we put them into
0:53.8	business sectors.
0:56.6	And today we're looking at the health care and bioscience sector.
1:02.3	We divide them also into two categories by size.
1:06.6	That is to say what we call breakthrough, that is, with annual revenues of less than £3 million
1:13.9	pounds and scale up entries, which are the bigger ones, with revenues of more than
1:20.3	$3 million.
1:22.0	So that's the way it's going to go.
