Hello and welcome to the podcast. This is a special episode in which we're taking a look at an issue that we've looked at before

and we're going to continue to look at in depth going forward artificial intelligence and its impact on a wide variety of issues.

In fact, sometimes I call artificial intelligence and everything issue because there is nothing it doesn't change.

And in fact, one of the problems I think people have is that they zero in on one problem, one threat, one opportunity and they don't see it more broadly.

But today I want to look at one particular slice of this all because I think we're going to feel it sooner rather than later.

Recently Freedom House has come out with a study called the Repressive Power of Artificial Intelligence, which is part of their look at the repression of information around the world each year.

And it looks, I think for the first time in a new light and a constructive light, at how artificial intelligence is being used by many nations around the world already as a force behind censorship and repression.

And we'll talk a little bit also about how artificial intelligence is used as a force to feed disinformation.

We're joined today by two of the folks behind the study, Ali Funk is the research director for technology and democracy at Freedom House.
