what we're talking about is whether the economy is working or not. Because when the

system is going well, we have confidence that working harder will lead to more

rewards, more opportunities, that we have

have a stable and meaningful place in society.

We don't have to worry about whether our bills are going to get paid or

whether we can afford to send our kids to school or have enough money for retirement,

people become more cooperative, violence falls.

But when the system isn't going well, people start to feel pessimistic, resentful, and things

start to feel zero sum. The more you have, the less I have.

In a lot of 2024 election polling, a lot of voters are saying that what matters to the most

is which president would translate into better economic prospects for me and my family.
