A couple of years ago, I floated the idea of doing a trip to Greece with the group of listeners of the show.

Then COVID hit and that plan had to be shelved, but now things are hopefully opening up again.

I am itching to go to Greece, and I'd love to take a bunch of you with me.

So here's the deal. I'm looking at doing an ancient Greece declassified tour of Greece in August, specifically

from August 16th to the 24th, and in this brief announcement I'm going to tell you what

that trip would be like and how you can join in on the fun if you want to.

The tentative theme of the trip is the rise and fall of classical Greece.

So we're going to explore Athens and Sparta, of course, the two defining polis of that era,

as well as places like Olympia, the Oracle of Delphi, and other awesome sites of the classical

period.

But we're also going to dip back in time to the Bronze Age to see

what came before at places like Mycini and Tyrens, and we'll jump forward in time to see what came

later, including some Roman, Byzantine, and even Venetian and Turkish ruins. The trip will

last eight days, and it will begin and end in Athens. So if you want to come, it'll be your

job to get to Athens, and that includes buying your own plane ticket. But once we all meet up there, everything for the next eight days, or almost everything, will be arranged for you. That includes our bus that we'll use to travel around, hotel rooms and all the places we visit, tickets to all the archaeological sites, most meals, not all,

and an awesome tour guide, who's also an archaeologist, and will be my partner in guiding you guys

through the ancient sites we visit. So all that will be included in the price of the tour.

So what is that price? Well, if you look at similar trips that other history podcasts have

organized in that region of the world, like the Mediterranean and Turkey, the going price is usually

$3,000 and up, and things are only getting more expensive as gas prices continue to soar.

Nevertheless, I will do everything I can to make the cost under 3K.
