When tragedy strikes, it's hard enough to cope with the loss and grief; however, add onto all of that having to battle over a will in court for 5+ years, paying $10,000-$20,000+ in lawyer fees. What I know now from working with people every week, who've endured this tragedy, is that "having a will" does not protect you or your family like having a trust does. The trust may cost more up front, but it can protect your family from having to pay thousands in legal fees, over years, while your will is in "probate". Many will's are not open and closed, as people think. 0:18.0	Hello everyone. Welcome to the Angels and Awakening podcast. My name's Julie Jansis and I'm your host. Today we are talking about wills and trust. Why? Because in the business that I work in every day, there are so many people who deal with this and a lot of times what I see is that it's not done in a way that is, shall I say,
0:27.4	emotionally healthy and perhaps even we could if we knew more do things in a way that just set up the people that
0:36.7	were leaving behind in a way that benefits them to the greatest degree.
0:44.0	So when my dad passed away,
0:46.0	and I know I've talked about this before a little bit,
0:48.9	what you don't know is that he left behind two sons
0:52.4	that were underage.
0:54.1	And he had three marriages.
0:58.0	In his second marriage, he had his sons.
1:01.4	And in the divorce there was a legal document stating that in the case of
1:09.7	my father's passing those boys would get $200,000 to use for their college, to use to get them
1:17.6	grown until they were 18.
1:20.3	Well, because my dad was a federal employee, and I don't know if that's really the true reason.
1:26.4	That's just what I was told.
1:28.6	What happened was his third wife did not share the will that he had left with anyone.
1:36.0	He didn't share his will with anyone else and so his third wife, we don't know if she took it and trucked it in the fire.
1:45.0	We don't know what happened, but we do know because she told us of her own words that there were letters for my sister, myself, my brothers and those letters were never received by any of us.
2:00.0	There was supposed to be mementos that were given to us. That wasn't received and it has been I they have spent over ten thousand dollars that $15, it might be $20.
2:13.4	Fighting this, I have not fought any of it myself,
2:17.3	but you can send a lot of money in these situations. It's very hurtful, it's very painful. There are other
2:26.2	situations that I've dealt with with my clients where they come in and they'll say,
2:30.8	you know, my sister took everything.
