Welcome to Home of the Brave. I'm Scott Carrier. I was going to play another story from the archive today. That's a good one that not many people have heard, but then in lieu of recent events, the shootings in Dallas, St. Paul, and Baton Rouge, I've decided to forego any attempt at entertainment. I've been sitting here for almost a month now trying to figure out what to do and where to go, feeling the tension in the air as the country pulls itself apart.

Every other day brings a new unimaginable atrocity, and our attempts at solutions only make

the problems worse because we can't even agree on what the problems are.

Maybe I'm thinking it's time to move to Idaho and hunker down for the apocalypse. But no, running away is not an option here at

home of the brave. Our method is to move toward the scary thing, mainly by listening.

Dr Thompson once said,

when the going gets weird, the weird turned pro.

And it's in this spirit, I've decided

to go to the conventions in Cleveland and Philadelphia,

not to cover what goes on inside, but to cover what goes on outside, on the streets. I want to hear from the people who show up to protest or counter-protest or maybe because

God told them to come. What will happen when they come together on one stage, two stages, two performances of perhaps our broken democracy

and action.

I don't know what's going to happen, maybe nothing, but I'm going to go and listen to people and produce stories that show

what it's like to be there because this is my job.

And luckily I have one, thanks to you, the listeners listeners or at least the listeners who've donated.
