Welcome to a special from the Archives edition of Full Measure After Hours.

Today we hear about a fascinating program that sends

social workers instead of police to some 911 calls.

Some of you may know that like many cities Denver Colorado is suffering a huge violent crime wave. I visited Denver a couple of years ago to look at a

program that the police force was implementing

in conjunction with the rest of the city to use social workers instead of police to respond to some 911

calls.

And then I interviewed Denver's police chief Paul Pazon,

who was passionate about the program.

Well, he retired in October of 2023 under pressure after nearly 30 years with a force as

Denver crime was on pace to hit all-time highs. Now Denver's new chief with a big job

ahead is Ron Thomas a 33-year veteran of the Denver Police

Department. With that context in mind here's a replay of our episode with

former Chief Pazen. This week on full measure I'm going to be taking a look at the economy.

You know, economists are typically not neutral in terms of their views.

A lot of times I notice on news reports,

an economist may be interviewed and treated as if that person has an objective view

of what the economy is like or what the forecast is, but in fact, economists often come

from a specific philosophy or viewpoint.

And it's almost never set up that way when you hear an economist interviewed.
