Welcome to another edition of Full Measure After Hours.

Today, how far can cities go to clear out the homeless?

You know, it's not only big cities like New York City or Seattle that have had to deal

with a spike in homelessness in recent years. Even many smaller towns and cities have had to deal

with the same kind of problem. In some ways, when the homeless encampments pop up in

smaller towns, it's even more of a disruption to the community. Well, such was the case in

Grants Pass, Oregon, a couple of hours south of Portland, where this town became an unlikely

center point of a Supreme Court case that attempted to answer the

question as to whether cities have the right to move homeless encampments from public property.

This case went on for a couple of years.

And as you'll hear, a lot of towns and cities and communities were waiting for the answer from the Supreme Court case

to try to understand whether they have the right at all to take apart the tent cities and the encampments

that were popping up on public property around the country. Or did the homeless people have some kind of right to be on this public property unencumbered?
