Hello again, everybody, and welcome to the Mike Francesa podcast, part of the BetRivers Network.

Wasn't expecting to be with you today, but hey, you never know when something's going to happen.

And something obviously did today, as the Knicks said goodbye to their head coach, probably surprising a lot of New York.

I don't think it's surprised all of New York.

But let's get to it what we know, what we think we know, and what we don't know.

Okay, number one.

First, as I said to you the other night when we talked about Tibbs's future, this is not a referendum on the job he did here. He did a

wonderful job. This was a question as to whether or not the brain trust thought he could finish the job,

which means take them from here to a title.

Okay.

That was the question, not whether he had done a good job, because he has done a very good job rebuilding this team.

Now, the other part of this is, as I've said to you all year when we've discussed the Knicks, this was not a perfect setup.

Towns is not a perfect player for tips to coach. He is a defensive coach and Towns is a

befuddling, complicated, and very poor defensive player. Ed Brunson's problems on defense

and you have a defensive problem you can't solve.

And that is very difficult for a defensive coach.

Tibbs is a by nature a defensive first coach.

That's who he is.

Okay.

That's his nature.

Coaches almost down the line, there are only a couple that you could name who are equally offense and defense.
