More protests and arrests in Afghanistan after the Taliban ban women from universities.

We begin in Afghanistan, where women's freedoms have been curtailed once again.

On Wednesday, the Taliban banned women from attending universities. The decision has been met with

protests. 24 hours later, a small number of women have been arrested after they took to the streets.

Osana Safi from the BBC Afghan Service told me what they'd been saying.

So the protesters are shouting that we have been removed from universities for the crime of

reading and seeing. This is a reference to why the Taliban are imposing these restrictions,

particularly on women, because women regard the Taliban to be restricting the space for them

purely for gender reasons.

And we saw other pictures of people in Kabul shouting,

bread, work and freedom as well. Do we know what happened to these relatively small protests?

So what we are hearing from Kabul is that a group of women went onto the street this morning

to protest the decision, the ban on universities. One woman who called

Sir Sir Malala told BBC Afghan that they started the protest this morning,
