and exciting thinkers of our time. This week I'm speaking with author, activist, queer

theorists, and rebel, Matilda Bernstein-Sicamore. Matilda is the author and editor of several

books. Most recently, the novel sketch to see, which takes

place in mid-90s featuring a bunch of, well, mid-90s queer characters coming of age in Boston.

It's an awesome and very dizzying novel, and I think you should go out and read it.

She's also the author of The End of San Francisco, which is a really profound and touching memoir

of confronting her past and her abuse and her family.

And she's the editor of multiple books, which you can look up.

Matilda and I talk about the State of queer 2019. So every episode in January,

I'm talking about the state of something. So we did the state of philosophy 2019 with Dr. Peter

Rollins, the state of sexuality, 2019 with Dr. Chris Donahue. So Matilda's not a doctor, but really she should be a doctor of

queerness if that's something you can be. So Matilda and I go really deep into what it means to aspire to

masculinity right now in this time of toxic masculinity. We talk about trans and other LGBB inclusions and how those can

damage us sometimes when we keep our eye on inclusion at the expense of other things. We talk about the

problems of gay marriage and the way in which the gay rights movement has failed

us and also what more radical potentials might be there for us. I'm really excited to share

this episode with you, the State of Queer 2019 with Matilda Brinstein-Sicamore.
